Buying Butternut Squash

Look for: squash that has an even cream color, and is firm and heavy for its size.

Avoid: squash that has soft spots, is dull and wrinkled skin or is light for its size.

Seasonality: Late summer, fall and winter

Storing Butternut Squash

Store squash in a cool, dark place for up to a month. Once cut, wrap in plastic and refrigerate up to 5 days

Preparing Butternut Squash

Rinse and cut lengthwise. Remove and discard the seeds and excess fiber. Peel skin if desired.
