Buying Apples

Look for:
an apple should feel firm to the touch and free of bruises.

Avoid:
apples that feel cushiony when squeezed hard or have a loose stem that is mushy at the base; this means there is rot in the core.

Seasonality: Fall

Storing Apples

Place the apples in a plastic bag and refrigerate up to one month.

Preparing Apples

Do not peel or slice an apple until ready to use as it will begin to brown. Slow the browning by dipping raw sliced and/or peeled apples into lemon juice or vinegar and water, or by mixing apples with citrus fruits in a fruit salad.
