My hubby loves the oatmeal that takes 40 minutes of constant stirring until it's cooked. (example is McCann's Steel Cut Oat Meal).
If you cook wearing your work out clothes; you'll be less likely to keep on tasting; therefore saving calories. Sounds silly and it may just be. But it works. lol

well instead of making goodies with sugar or bad fats I use very little or add things like unsweetened applesauce, or bananas, coconut milk, whole wheat flour, nonfat milk if called for, nonfat cream cheese, etc. little tricks that help lower fat and sugar too.
Once a week, I 'purge' the refrigerator, getting rid of all limp or wilted foods, wipe down the shelves and drawers; then I can see what we need to replenish and it helps me w/ my grocery list as well as menu plan for the week. (It only takes minutes)

In addition to sauteed carrots, onions and garlic I added 4 cups of fresh spinach and 1 cup of cooked butternut squash to the 8 cups of water and 1 pound of dried split peas when I made soup. Once cooked, the immersion blender mixed everything into the familiar look of split pea soup. Doing this adds flavor, nutrients and some volume lowering the per serving calorie count. . I also added a splash of balsamic vinegar to finish the soup. Quite Yum
