walking does the heart good ...and all other body parts

I have discovered that walking has an immediate and positive affect on blood sugar. I proved that myself by testing my bs before and after a 30 minute walk. AND before taking meds.

It was shockingly better and to add to that great thing...my cholestrol also took a pleasant nose dive as well...

Losing weight with Type II Diabetes

Insulin causes the body to store fat. The more insulin you require to lower your blood sugar, the more fat you will store. To minimize this effect, try to make healthy lower carbohydrate choices in your diet to keep your blood sugar stable, thus requiring less insulin coverage!

Protein + Carb = No insulin spike!

Making sure to include a protein with those carbs at every snack and meal, allows the food to be digested more slowly. This rule applies to people without diabetes as well.

Balance in all things

Balance your carbs, fats, proteins, and calories evenly throughout the day with your three meals and two snacks. This will help keep everything working on an even keel with no spikes. Stay away from juices and dried fruits - eat whole fresh fruits instead to help lower your GI jump.

Accepting the facts

I think the most important thing I learned and am still learning, is that it is what it is!! I have Diabetes. I can control my BS, but Diabetes doesn't disappear. It took me months to admit that. To help control it, I do aerobic walking, mild strength exercises, drink lots of water,& limit carbs.

A1c

An A1c is a measure of how well your diabetes is doing over a 3 month period. Get one. It is one of the best ways of determining if your meds, exercise, diet, etc are working emoticon
It's also great to pat yourself on the back when your numbers are better than you thought.
