Eat Real Food

If you go to the grocery store you may notice the cheapest way to buy a potato is in a ten pound bag. A slightly more expensive way is one by one. If you buy them frozen like fries or hash browns they become more expensive still. The more processed a food item gets the more $$ per pound you pay. The most expensive way to buy a potato? Probably a potato chip - so save money by buying the least processed

My Favorite Bathroom Spray

If you have any old perfume or cologne bottles that you no longer use...think about using them for a bathroom spray. A tiny spritz in the air or on a curtain is so much more effective than those awful smelling commercial sprays. Guests would appreciate a label letting them know the bottle is free to use for odors. Not just for bathrooms...the house might need a tiny spritz here and there...smell lasts longer if you spray it on some material...don't over do it though! emoticon

Laundry Soap Recipe

This is cheap and compares to Tide with Bleach Alternative. Use 2 Tablespoons per load. Mix equal parts: borax, washing soda, Oxygen Cleaner, and powdered SUN laundry detergent. This really gets the stains out and whitens and brightens! Any powdered laundry detergent can be used in the recipe and mix it in a ziploc bag that has been closed! You can use Oxyclean for the Oxygen cleaner, but I use the off brand

Use those over ripe bananas!

I personally hate to eat over ripe bananas. I either freeze them (without the peel) and I can use them in a smoothie! Or use them to make banana bread!

Keep a Coin Rolling Schedule

We kept a coin jar, but we'd roll coins and exchange it for cash immediately then spend it; no savings there. Now we wait to roll until the jar is at least 3/4 full, and it has to go in our savings account. Seeing a large amount helps us stay motivated.

There Really Is No Secret

It's all in common sense. Don't follow any of the hype or the so-called miracle tips. Just employ steady, consistent, sensible principles of smart eating and remaining physical.

Start a Streak

I started a Save $1 a Day Streak in my Other Goals Tracker on October 17, 2008. I've been *streaking* for 1793 days. Most days, I put more then $1 in the kitty. I love this streak! Guess how much money I have saved? emoticon

Employee Discounts

I took a part-time job at a major sports and fitness retailer. The pay isn't fabulous, but the employee discount sure is! Now I have quality workout wear in my new size, a foam roller, and fitness gifts for family.
