Dollar Bills

Treat your dollar bills like your spare change. At the end of the day take your singles and put them in a piggy bank. You will be surprised at how fast they add up I then deposit mine in the bank at the end of every month.

Netflix: Cheaper than Cable, Endless Entertainment Options

Instead of paying large monthly sums for cable or satellite television, we use a Netflix account to watch movies and our favorite TV episodes. Online "watch instantly" options are great and provide endless entertainment options.

saving just $3 a day pays off by the end of the year

say you started your new exercise and eating right program january 1. if you were to also put aside $3 per day since january 1, by the end of the year (hence Christmas time) you will have right over $1000 to spend.
don't buy that favorite coffee drink from your local stores and spending $3 (or more) per day. spare your wallet and spare yourself the added calories by NOT buying the coffee.
reward yourself with new clothes, vacation, spa treatments...
enjoy you! emoticon

Don't Eat Out

I don't eat out at all these days, and I've found that I have TONS of extra money that I didn't have before - even though I didn't get a raise!

My $2 cup of coffee every morning has turned into a $2 box of tea, but for 40 days instead of just one!

Don't let things own you

Now that I am retired, I sometimes look at things in my home & wonder whatever possessed me to think I needed them. When we think about giving items away, we hate doing it because we spent so much money on them. But then the things own us, not the other way around.

I suggest putting things into 5 categories:

1) Donate (to Goodwill or similar charity)

2) Sell (remember they must be worth something or no one will buy them)

3) Trash what has no value

(click on title for numbers 4 & 5)

Free samples

I satisfy my shopping habit by applying for tons of free samples. I use sweetfreestuff.com because there arent any of those annoying "sign up for all these free offers to get your free sample!" sites. I get free samples in my mailbox (and most of them come with coupons). I get cool stuff everyday, and it makes me not want to go shopping!

Watch that cash register display like a hawk!

This is not a dig against cashiers. In this computerized aged, most cash registers have scanners. These little marvels can be inaccurate, They can also be mis-programmed. The sooner you can catch a mistake, the faster it can be corrected.
This will save you both money, and time.

Spend No Money!

It's fun to see how many Spend No Money days I can rack up in a week! Money we don't spend is money in our pockets, and it can really grow this way. This is also a useful way of breaking the spending habit! emoticon

Act your wage

Saw this powerful statement and it has stayed with me. Too often we use credit or put off bills to make ourselves feel better. Acting my wage means having a reality based spending plan and being willing to stick to it!
