I take off my shoes and socks. I plant my feet securely on the ground, take three deep breaths then start walking as slowly as I possibly can noticing every moves my body is having to make. If the scale doesn't seem to be moving despite your best efforts, get out the tape measure and check out your measurements. Several times this worked for me. I was surprised to find I had lost an inch on my waist and on my hips. This gave me encouragement to keep going with my plan. Look at the Bright Side of Giving Up Alcohol When I first decided to quit drinking because it was thwarting my weight-loss efforts I felt deprived. "Everyone else was drinking - - Why can't I drink too? I want to join the party" But now I'm reminding myself of the benefits of staying alcohol-free. The main one is that I'm more alert and less tired now. No hangover for me now ! That is the secret to staying positive. Just smile. When I start to feel stressed out, I close my eyes and take 5 very long deep breaths. I breathe in through the nose as long as I can and then out through my mouth exhaling all the breath in my lungs. This is not only cleansing to the body, it's also cleansing to the mind. I saw the sun this morning...it has been rarely spotted here in central Illinois lately.
Even if you're far away from your goal, love your body today. Love it for doing it's best to take care of you. Love it because you've had some good times in it. Love it because it's yours. Don't go to bed mad! Stay up and talk it out. You won't sleep well if your mad.
Being in the health care field I decided to treat negativity with a "mind field enema" ! Literally to remove the bad build up of (forgive me here) "crap". I would immediately counteract the negativity with a sudden influx of nothing but positive images of where I wanted to be, positive self-talk reinforcement from supportive friends at Spark People. Believe me - it worked and continues to do so. Dance Like No One Is Watching (& Laugh like you're watching someone dance!) Who ever felt bad when they were dancing? Put on your favorite jam and just get jiggy with it!! It will make you feel better, and it might make you laugh as well. We all need a good laugh sometimes too!! |
