How do you achieve and maintain a positive outlook?
When I start to feel bad about myself, I remind myself that there are others who are struggling with their weight just like I am. I then think of what I would say to a person who was feeling bad and write it down. When I read it back, it is like I just gave myself a pep talk! I'm so smart!
When some adversity comes my way and my mind starts to focus on the troubles, I try to stop and start to list ways that it could be worse. "There are so many people who......" Or "I have been in more pain than this." etc. I try to give thanks for my adversity.
So often we spend much of our time and energy doing for others. We need to remember to always take time for ourselves. If we don't, we'll run out of gas. It doesn't have to be hours. A soak in the tub or a short walk often gives us time to refuel our own tanks!
Have a garden, big or small. It's a win win situation. You get fresh air. You are out moving about. You can be proud of yourself for growing your own food or flowers. It is calming and relaxing.
Whenever you're stressed out about something, consider this: you are just one person out of around 6,800,000,000 living on a planet orbiting one of the roughly 300,000,000,000 stars in the Milky Way galaxy, which is just one of approximately 150,000,000,000 galaxies in the universe. Nothing matters.
How many times a day do you think "wow she has great hair" or "he did a great job on that"? I realized I was passing up many opportunities to make other people feel good about themselves. I now tell that person as soon as I think of the compliment or give them a note. We both get a mood lift!
So what if you wake up grumpy for no reason? Plaster a smile on your face and when people ask you how you are, say, "I'm fantastic!" When you start feeling fat, walk away from that mirror and carry yourself like a supermodel for the rest of the day.
I made a huge playlist of super positive and energetic songs (called "Positively Positive!" of course). Whenever I don't feel so positive, I put it on random and dance around. It's nice to really listen to the music & dancing can release that stress and negativity. It helps to sing out loud, too.
You have to make yourself a priority. Time for you is just as important as any other appointment on your calendar. I have penciled in appointments with myself to make sure I get the time I need.
I went bowling tonight and wasn't really strong with my leukemia and platelets down to 73. When I got there I felt a little better and found out the team we bowled was only 6 points different. We bowled great, I had a 187, 159 and bad 129 series 475. My average is 145 and we took 3 games so not bad...
