I am not always the greatest at savings. Should not always depend on a credit card, that's how some people get into debt and never get out. What I like to do is when I have extra cash, I like to pre-load a card either from home online or instore with extra cash I have, then when I am low and would love to get out (ie from Tim Horton's or Subway), I already have the money to pay.
Every so often, I like to go around the house and see what I haven't used in what seems like ages, I either donate or if possible sell on-line. I had an extra slow cooker in its original box, sold it. Had 2 extra sets of cultery, sold one with extra dishes that I don't need, and several other items I am trying to sell. Gives me extra room in the house, plus get a few extra bucks to pay down the mortgage or put towards RRSPs.
Whenever I go to a store, I like to browse. I know Sobeys, Superstore, Walmart, Best Buy, Future Shop, Shoppers are in this program. I have found that Sobeys is bad for not taking down all their signs. Whether or not the coupon is expired, since the store is advertising it on sale, you are entitled to get it on sale (it's not your fault they forgot to take it down). Not only that, since they didn't have it at the right price, you can claim up to $10 off per unique UPC/SKU #.
I love to walk everywhere. Early in the morning for Safeway and Superstore, when they first open, they have a rack of baked goods that expire that day for either 50% off or reduced really cheap. In the meat department, Safeway has meat with a clearance section for 30-50% off. They also have a section for 50% off for yogurt that will expire soon. Shoppers Drug Mart, in the evenings (not all the time), they have a rack of a variety of stuff up to 75% off. I got Irish Springs bodywash For $1.
I used to work for McDonald's a few years ago in Manitoba, not sure if its for everywhere, but they accept expired coupons up to five years after they have expired. If it's still programmed into the computer, you can use as is, ie 2 can dine is usually still in there.
Some cities offer 1 or 2 weekends a year where you can leave stuff you dont want at the edge of your curb with a label saying free. This weekend in Winnipeg, it's happening all around. You can sometimes pick up good things, I got 2 A&W mugs, 1 huge one for my brother, 1 medium for me.
I love going to Goodwill store. I love it when the Goodwill store will have their Dollar Daze. I will buy tons of clothes, they get the money they need for their programs, I get tons of clothes that fit for dirt cheap for me, then I redonate the clothes when I dont want them anymore or too big.
