Tracking with magnets

I try to get 8 5-minute walks in during my work day. I have 8 of those chunky magnets that you slap on your overhead metal cabinets. At the start of the day they're all on one cabinet door. As I complete a 5 minute walk I move them to the other door. Hopefully, by the end of the day they're all moved, and I got 40 minutes and two miles of walking done!

good for you chicken "parm"

I wanted something different for a quick dinner for one this week. I always keep cooked boneless chicken breasts in the freezer. So I chopped one,put it on a small wrap (I used a whole wheat tortilla wrap - about 60 calories) with about a quarter cup of part skim mozzarella cheese (less works too -- it's really to your taste) and a couple of tablespoons of tomato sauce. I toasted it in the toaster oven til the cheese melted. It was delicious.

Sneaking in Strength Training

For me, incorporating strength training in the early stages was hard. My secret? Since you are drinking more, you will be going to the bathroom more. Use that as a reminder to do something for strength. Upon your return, do a quick set of squats or wall push ups, or if you work in a highrise bldg, use the restroom two floor up or down and use the stairs to do step ups or calf raises.

FREE GYM MEMBERSHIP with certain insurance plans

If your insurance includes "SIlver & Fit" or "Silver Sneakers" you may be covered from gym fees. Check with your insurance! And let them know where you work out and if that Gym is affiliated you could work out for free!

I have most recently seen Medicare and Kaiser insurance... but there are many.

No TV unless...

I love my crazy dramatic "reality" shows. We have a DVR and just recently got a treadmill. I only allow myself to watch these shows while on the treadmill. Half of the time I don't even realize how much I have done!

No Shame in Loving the Points

When I'm not seeing the results I want on the scale, I depend on the points I get to make me feel like I've accomplished something! Maybe I didn't lose a pound, but by trying to get as many points as possible I know I'm doing something right. Plus, trophies!
