Eat Just for One!

My serving sizes and portions didn't seem outrageous, but using a food journal made me realize I was eating for 2-3 people rather than eating just for me. When I started tracking my food on the Spark People food tracker and measuring portions, I was able to be certain I was eating just for one and lost 32 pounds.

insurning a workout

One thing I do most days to make sure I get a workout in is to get out of bed and put on workout clothes. I vow not to take a shower until I workout, even if it's just a ten minute walk with the dog.

Do Easy Strength Training All Day Long

I identified a handful of exercises off of the SP strength training list that are very easy to do - calf rocking, seated leg raises, wall pushups, etc. I try to do these all day and it increases my metabolism (and hopefully my weight loss!)

Bento

To help encourage my portion control, I eat only what I pack in my bento.

Just MOVE

So many days I don't feel like exercising. Once I do it I am so happy and feel better. By starting the day with a workout, I already feel successful. I also find that I am more active and more willing to take the stairs or add more movement to housecleaning.

An accurate food scale really measures up!

As a type-2 diabetic, keeping accurate track of my food really matters in glucose control and to lose weight. After watching Biggest Loser, I thought I would try their tip of weighing food, rather than using measuring cups or eyeballing portions. I began weighing the food I had just measured, and I was shocked to see how great a difference there was. When you're measuring something high in calories, such as walnuts, you can easily goof and unknowinly add 100 high-fat calories!
