Wake up to a pleasant sound

My mornings have been so much more productive since I started waking up to an alarm which plays a recording of robins chirping. The sound is not disruptive; robins are a local bird that chirp in the mornings outside my window anyway. I wake up naturally and feel more refreshed. I have been using this method to wake up before dawn to work out. It tricks my mind into thinking it is time to get up with the birds!

Chase your kid as they ride their bike

Think your child is too small to exercise with you? I walk or run after my 4 y/o as he rides his bike ahead of me. I have him stop at every intersection so I can catch up. It keeps my pace up, helps me to keep an eye on him, and encourages family exercise. He is always shouting, "Run Mom!" when I slow down, so it's like having a free personal trainer!

Pick up one piece of trash per day for a beautiful community

Do you love your town? Does it make you a little sad when you look around and see that other people have littered carelessly? Just pick up one piece of trash every day and you will make a difference in your community. Maybe others will see you do it and they will start doing it too!

Never drive if it's less than 5 miles away

or 4. or 1. or 10! Choose a number that works for your fitness level and schedule, and then commit to never drive to a destination if it is less than that distance. I bike if it's less than 5 miles, or walk if less than 1 mile. This saves money, benefits the environment, and adds cardio minutes!

Small Changes Add Up Fast!

I make a goal for myself to make one small change for the better every week. These small changes have added up fast. It can be like, eat one vegetable every day. Or, this week I started composting. Smaller is better. Small changes are easy to stick with. You can add to them later.
