Instead of sitting on the couch to watch TV at night, sit on the floor and "play" with your dogs. Strength out to reach them. Do sit ups with them on your chest. They love that you are interacting and you get a great workout! :)
Before SP, I always thought I that if I didn't have enough time to exercise, it was zilch for the day. Now I realize that, even on lazy days, all I need is a 10 minute block of time. I usually find that I do much more than that, so it's just getting started with those 10 minutes that's great.
Large Aquarium - 60 gallons plus a 30 gallon aquarium with terrific location.! I must spend about 20 minutes just watching my fish as I recline and concentrate on my breathing. This is very effective in helping me to destress and relax after dealing with palliative patients all day.
Scheduling items from my self care list helps me to manage stress. In addition, these are non-negotiable, i.e. they are as important as brushing my teeth in the morning and getting to work on time. Regular self care includes relaxing breathing, wandering around my vegetable garden, trying a new SparkPeople exercise video, progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), and so on.
I've started taking a photo of everything I eat. I review at the end of the day. If you have to have a picture of it, you might think twice before eating it! This is a great way to see what I'm actually eating over the course of a day. I can also snap a quick photo if it's something I don't have time to log. Just log it later. I'm going to do this for a week at least to see if it keeps me mindful of what and how much I'm eating and NOT overeating.
One of the BEST steps I took was joining SparkTeams that connected me with like-minded people. I believe this is one of the features of SparkPeople that make others' successful. I tried another tracking site but it didn't have some KEY ingredients that SP offers: community, motivational incentives and goal setting.
