Eating fruit

I have found that eating fruit by itself tends to make me more hungry and causes problems with my sugar levels. However, If I add a protein with that fruit My sugar levels stay even and I can go longer between eating. One of my favorite snacks is an apple with a slice of american cheese.

Non-Food Rewards

I've been using SparkGoodies as non-food rewards for non-scale AND scale victories. I usually pick out a gold star and list why I'm giving it to myself in the comment section. This keeps me from rewarding myself with food!

Biggest Loser

On Tuesday nights my daughter, a friend from work and myself have Biggest Loser night. We start with a healthy dinner, then go into the exercise room and workout for an hour while watching The Biggest Loser. Great working out with friends and experimenting with new recipes.

No snooze!

If you're trying to make yourself get into an AM workout routine but are not a morning person, don't allow yourself "snooze button" time. Set your alarm for the time you need to get up to get your workout in - setting it 10 minutes earlier so you can catch a few extra zzzs can too easily turn into 20 or 30 minutes.

No More Feelings of Deprivation

It's taken me YEARS to do what I am finally doing --- changing my lifestyle and not just dieting.

My secrets are: 1, realizing that I am not depriving myself when I eat smaller portions and strive for balanced, healthy meals because the foods I eat are DELICIOUS and 2, constant journaling to vent about the lapses and learn from them. Together, I am loving myself more.

I don't give up things I really want; I just don't have them every day. I'm also learning from my triggers..

Eating should be a chore

When I was little, I played outside until the sun went down. We were forced to come in for lunch and dinner. We didn't want to take the time to eat! It was more like a chore. I believe we should view eating as a chore. Something we have to do for nutrition, but not as a hobby (which is what it has been for me for awhile now). emoticon

A Brand New Exercise - Highly Effective !!!

Focus on your cheek muscles - just above the jaw. Now contract them so that they pull back and upward toward the ears. Contract hard enough so that your lips part slightly and your teeth show. Outstanding. Keep that up.

Put together a walk pack

Since I am now walking on a fairly regular basis, I decided to put a walk pack together. Just used a small, sport sling backpack. I hate keeping a lot of stuff in my pockets, and sometimes don't even have pockets. It's ready to go on a moments notice by the door.

Second Nature

I used to think that if I ate healthy, I would get into the habit of eating healthy and it would "become second nature." But now I think it isn't the healthy eating that becomes second nature. It is the vigilance, creating healthy opportunities, insisting on healthy options, bringing your own snacks and lunch to work, modifying orders in restaurants, etc. that becomes second nature. What becomes second nature is putting your health first and doing what it takes to maximize it.
