Time for a check-up

Confess: If your doctor showed up at your door, right now, for a surprise inspection, to view the contents of your refrigerator and cabinets, would he/she approve of your food choices or chase you around the room with a blood pressure cuff? When was the last time you evaluated the foods in the fridge and pantry? Would you get the seal of approval from your doc?

Limit Distractions During Exercise

So many of us read, watch TV or text during exercise; and, if you think about it, it's not a good thing. If we distract ourselves, though it helps pass the time, we might not be putting 100% effort into the activity. Listening to music can be more motivating, as you move to the beat. If music isn't your thing, just concentrate on giving every step you walk, or every weight you lift your full attention. Full attention and effort isn't easy, but the rewards will be great. emoticon

Breathe, breathe, breathe

Are you feeling a bit stressed today? When I feel frazzled, I tune out the world for a minute by closing my eyes and taking several slow deep breaths. (This works during an argument as well to diffuse the tension with a short time-out.) Wishing you peace and a sense of calm, Sparkers.

Life is a Beach -- work it out!

Headed to the beach this summer? Instead of planting an umbrella and snoozing, have tons of fun-in-the sun and work your body while you're at it. Take a long walk -- there's much to see! -- play volleyball, explore tide pools, try a water sport, go for a jog, build a sandcastle, using your lower body to lug that water and your upper body to stretch and tone. The beach provides infinite opportunities to move your body and still have time to enjoy that juicy novel. Remember sunscreen! emoticon
