Instead of mindless eating during prime time TV, I clip coupons that I don't use for the troops. They even take some expired ones! This is a great cause AND keeps my fingers busy so I don't grab those chips. It takes some time to clip and sort, but I feel it's the least I can do! Go to their website for more info: www.supportourtroops.org
Be sure to occasionally check nutrition info on products. Just discovered I had 3 different TGIF Cobb salads in my favorites and NONE of them matched the website. Sometimes sizes change (like Chobani Greek Yogurt now 5.3 oz. from 6 oz.) or restaurants choose better ingredients.
Watch out for yogurt size changes! One big brand Greek yogurt redesigned their package and changed from 6 oz. to 5.3 oz. Less calories & nutrition now. Same price though! That's the trick they play in food marketing! Remember when coffee was in a 16 oz. can? Now 13 oz. OOPS - 11.3 oz. now!!
I am following SparkPeople advice and eating my meals at the dinner table. My husband and I had gotten into the bad habit of eating in front of the TV. But with new living room furniture, we try to eat back in the kitchen where we belong! Makes me more conscience of what I am eating when I am not so distracted. Actually, more comfortable too.
I had gotten into a bad habit of snacking a lot in the evening while watching TV. I am using a tip from SparkPeople to stop. After dinner, I must stop at 9 PM and brush my teeth. I am not allowing myself anything else but water after that time. I find I am happy with a chosen snack or 2 but "close" the kitchen by 9! I don't want to have to brush again before bedtime. It seems to be working.
I sometimes have a problem donating platelets due to low iron count. I have discovered dried kiwi fruit is a perfect snack for boosting my iron. 3-4 pcs. are 165 cal. with 25% iron for day. Tastes great too! I eat them for a week or two and a handful of chocolate almonds the day before and that morning, and my iron count has been up!
