TROOPONS - Support Our Troops with coupons

Instead of mindless eating during prime time TV, I clip coupons that I don't use for the troops. They even take some expired ones! This is a great cause AND keeps my fingers busy so I don't grab those chips. It takes some time to clip and sort, but I feel it's the least I can do! Go to their website for more info: www.supportourtroops.org
UPDATE: Just sent out $4,184.57 worth of coupons today!!

Friend Feed

I follow my Spark Friends' Feed on my Smartphone. It is so much easier to see where I left off. Be sure to "like" their feed and leave encouraging comments. It's nice to know someone cares.

Check Nutriion Info for changes

Be sure to occasionally check nutrition info on products. Just discovered I had 3 different TGIF Cobb salads in my favorites and NONE of them matched the website. Sometimes sizes change (like Chobani Greek Yogurt now 5.3 oz. from 6 oz.) or restaurants choose better ingredients.

Yogurt sizes are changing

Watch out for yogurt size changes! One big brand Greek yogurt redesigned their package and changed from 6 oz. to 5.3 oz. Less calories & nutrition now. Same price though! That's the trick they play in food marketing! Remember when coffee was in a 16 oz. can? Now 13 oz. OOPS - 11.3 oz. now!!

Always eat at the table

I am following SparkPeople advice and eating my meals at the dinner table. My husband and I had gotten into the bad habit of eating in front of the TV. But with new living room furniture, we try to eat back in the kitchen where we belong! Makes me more conscience of what I am eating when I am not so distracted. Actually, more comfortable too. emoticon

Stop Snacking in the Evening

I had gotten into a bad habit of snacking a lot in the evening while watching TV. I am using a tip from SparkPeople to stop. After dinner, I must stop at 9 PM and brush my teeth. I am not allowing myself anything else but water after that time. I find I am happy with a chosen snack or 2 but "close" the kitchen by 9! I don't want to have to brush again before bedtime. emoticon It seems to be working.

Mocktails

Just tried 3 of Crystal Lights new "mocktails" - Mojito was great (taste like the real thing minus the alcohol) I also liked the Peach Bellini. Margarita was a little sour but ok. emoticon

Kiwi dried fruit good source of iron

I sometimes have a problem donating platelets due to low iron count. I have discovered dried kiwi fruit is a perfect snack for boosting my iron. 3-4 pcs. are 165 cal. with 25% iron for day. Tastes great too! I eat them for a week or two and a handful of chocolate almonds the day before and that morning, and my iron count has been up!

Frozen Grapes

I like to measure out a serving of grapes and put them in the freezer for a few hours. They take longer to eat, since you have to bite pieces off instead of popping them in your mouth.
