It is never really about how much we make but all about what we have saved. If you make a million dollars and spend it all you are worse off than the person who made twenty thousand and saved five hundred. So next time you think you MUST HAVE something, ask yourself if this is something that will help you meet your long term financial goals.
I like to bend and twist and lift and dig. It all works out the body while gardening It is amazing the workout one can get just working in the yard. I get a lot of bending and twisting when I weed. I get weight lifting carrying bags of potting soil, buckets of water, and moving things around. It all adds up in the scheme of things.
Start early to save. Don't wait till you are ready to retire, it is toooooo late then. You don't have to start big, but put something away every week and over time it will grow. When you get a raise, if you have been ok, put that extra money into the bank. If you get some unexpected money, put that in savings too. The more you put away early the earlier you will have enough to retire.
If there is something you are wanting and you have a chance try to trade something you no longer need for it or barter your services for someone else's service. When we owned an appliance store, we would trade a service call for something another owner might have that we wanted. It was a win-win for both of us.
Whenever I feel a tingle in my throat, I get a small glass of warm water and add 1 T of apple cider vinegar and drink it down. Then I start drinking a cup of hot tea a couple times a day with 1 T of honey and 1 T of apple cider vinegar and have not had a problem with sore throat in several years since I started doing this.
I never put anything on my credit card that I can't pay off when the bill comes in. I like to use it for all my purchases as I get points that I save and I use the points to purchase gift cards for the kids and grandkids at Christmas. That saves me from having to come up with extra $$$$ to buy the gift cards every year.
I find that if my friends are positive people, I am more inclined to be in a positive mode. Not to say that any of us can't have an off day, but I find that I choose my friends from among people who look on the bright side of life. Those who are always complaining or in a bad mood, I will be friendly to, but I do not get close to them as I do not want to be drug down in the pit they are in. No one else can pull someone out of that abyss.
I find that if I have positive friends in my life, then I have a more positive attitude. If friends are very negative, then I try to help them thru it and if it isn't possible, then I limit my contact for awhile as I don't want to get drug down into the pit with them as that does neither of us any good. I always try to look at some good coming from even bad things, sometimes we just don't realize what is happening is really a blessing in disguise.
If you have been able to live on what you were making, when you get a raise, put that into savings so that it grows. Over time your savings will grow and you have never spent beyond your means. Less is more because buying to just accumulate things is meaningless.
