Buy your own dessert

If eating out and you know someone else is going to be picking up the check, I'd advise you to eat healthily and normally like you usually would. Save the dessert for the end and pay for it yourself. This delay will make you think twice as to whether its worth the money and additional calories. You may find you can get along without it. :)

Save desserts for last

Often I've found that the days I go over on my calorie range are ones where I've had dessert earlier in the day. Like for lunch or as a snack or something. With dessert first, I can hardly eat supper without going over on calories!

I'm hungry and almost always craving something sweet in the evening between supper and bed, and if I've eaten healthy foods that day I not only tend to have calories left over, but I tend to make smarter choices with my dessert options.

Another use for a dish drainer

This isn't original with me--I saw it in a book somewhere--but if you have a bunch of coloring books, you can use a dish drainer rack to store them in, with the holder that silverware would normally go in now being for crayons. Clever, no?

Another way to get in water

So the other water secret I have on here, eating a piece of dark chocolate after drinking my full 24-oz. cup of water helps, but it seems to mean that I wait until the evening to cram all my water drinking in. So I've found a way to start earlier. I fill up my cup and put it in my car. I have three part-time jobs so I spend a bit of time driving each day. Every time I get to a red light, I drink water until the light changes or until I'm sick of it. :P But I've gone through quite a bit this way!

My reward for drinking water

I *hate* drinking water! So I fill up my 24-ounce cup with water and sip on it throughout the day. When it's empty, I take it downstairs to refill. As I pass by the freezer, I reward myself with one piece of dark chocolate. This works wonders! It's only like 36 calories and I have something to look forward after drinking my water! Three times of filling my glass = 3 pieces of chocolate and 9 cups of water drank! That's amazing!!

Cold Food = More Flavor?

It might just be all in my head, but I think, if you can get past the texture, cold food actually has more flavor than hot food. Maybe the flavors condense? I don't know, but it works for me! :)

Drinking water with a meal

So this is probably a no-brainer for most people, but for me it was a revelation yesterday. I went through four glasses of water with my supper simply by taking one bite of food and then one sip of water. I hate water, so this was a major deal! I'm also not used to drinking anything with my meal; I prefer to save it for the end. But I found not only did I get the water down, but it wasn't so bad since I knew I could have a bite of something tasty right after my one sip.

Budgeted calories

I tend to think of calories as money. When my range is used up, I have to stop. There isn't any 'credit' in calorie-counting! :)

Selected weight tracking

I weigh myself every day if possible when I first wake up, but I only record the days in SP when I actually have lost weight from the last time I weighed in.

'Dancing'

It's a embarrassing pleasure of mine, but when no one else is around, I like to wear headphones, turn up the music, and get lost in Cirque de Soleil's wonderous sounds--and then try to 'dance'. I don't know how to dance, so I just do whatever seems to fit the music. But I love it! It really is a secret pleasure of mine... :)
