I went for a walk and was trying to step faster when I suddenly found myself JOGGING! I never thought I'd run again using bad knees, overweight, cardio... every excuse! I ran 60% of my 2.5 mile route - 2 min walk / 3 min run intervals... if I can run - anyone can run!
I used to think that exercising 5 days straight was the best thing I could do. However, by day 4-5 I was wiped out, and felt like my workout was really suffering. Now I work out, Mon. Tues. take a break on Wed. Work out on Thurs-Sat, break on Sunday. It gives my body time to recoup :)
Since I am now walking on a fairly regular basis, I decided to put a walk pack together. Just used a small, sport sling backpack. I hate keeping a lot of stuff in my pockets, and sometimes don't even have pockets. It's ready to go on a moments notice by the door.
When I worked and I took a bathroom break I would march in place to increase my steps. It also works if you are standing on your feet like a cashier, nurse, gardener, or other jobs. The steps add up quickly. Even you you march in place brushing your teeth for two minutes, dish washing, cooking you are getting tons of steps in. Just do it. MOVE!!!
I have an iPod touch and love it. I didn't like the earbuds that came with it though so I bought a new softer pair. I wear them upside down. I have the wires come up over the back of my ears before I put them in my ears. They stay put much better when I run. I also have trouble reading that tiny R and L on the back of the buds to know which ear to put them in so I painted a dot on the right one with some red nail polish. You know...R=red. =)
I started off all "gung-ho" and felt I was a failure if I didn't have at least 120 minutes of exercise a day. Both my energy and motivation soon died! I've learned that it is okay, even beneficial, to allow myself a day to rest.
I find that if I wake up eat my breakfast then lace up my tennis shoes and head out the door with my I-pod in hand and my gum in my mouth If I walk at a decent pace for 30 minute's every day i find my self going a little faster and a little farther every day !!!!!!! Give it a try !!!!!!!!!!
