Sit on your balance disc -- small subtle constant movement results

I bought an Altus balance disc and a co-worker mentioned her hyperactive son takes one to school to sit on. It keeps him in constant motion but confined to a seat.

That works for me! I sit on mine occasionally and I notice my abs and obliques making constant small adjustments to stay balanced.

Keep measuring cup with nuts to control the portion

I like nuts as one of my daily snacks. I do not have the ability to stop once I start unless I pre-measure a quarter cup. So now I keep a small measuring cup with my nuts at work. Maybe I should post this in saving money too because the pound of nuts lasts much longer.

Don't Dither Move On

If packing up a house, don't dither over items you're not sure if you want them packed or are unsure how to pack them. Keep moving and working on the sure things. You'll find while you're showering or doing other tasks, your mind will be working behind the scenes to help you decide.

No Self-Control? Toss half before starting to eat

If I'm going to have a bad treat (think Hersey bar or ice cream from a stand), I find it easier to toss half of it BEFORE I start eating it rather than just eating half. I can't eat just half if it's in front of me. So for those few seconds when I still have a bit of self-respect and self-control, I toss away half.

Keep your car running for at least 200,000 miles

Do the maintenance in the owner's manual but only that maintenance -- many places like to tack on extras -- how many times have they wanted to vacuum your air conditioning system?

Fix problems as soon as they occur. Our cars have systems that can break if another system is broken.

Map those errand routes for mileage

I kept bemoaning that I didn't actually run or walk ever until I realized those lunch-time errands might help. I used the Fitness Tracker and mapped my route from my building to the CVS and back. I was able to quickly see that going around 2 blocks would make 1 mile.

Same food; different presentation

The basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, and cheese can be presented so that it appears to be quite different meals.
Chop up your veggies and bacon and heat in skillet, pour over the scrambled eggs, put lid on top, put on low for 20 mins is a fritata. Add cheese at the end of cooking.
Or line a muffin tin with cooked strip of bacon, add the scrambled eggs, bake for 20 mins at 400 -- now you have a breakfast muffin. Top with cheese.
Or keep it simple and just scramble the eggs and bacon

Shredded Parmesan vs shredded cheddar

Parmesan has about 30 less calories per 4 Tablespoons, and half the fat. For me it's a better choice for an omelet.
Also I've noticed that already shredded cheddar frequently is coated with something that has carbs.

Love long-cooking oatmeal? Hate stirring? Use your crockpot

My hubby loves the oatmeal that takes 40 minutes of constant stirring until it's cooked. (example is McCann's Steel Cut Oat Meal).

Now he can use a small crockpot, 4 cups cold water, 1 cup oats and set it on low just before going to sleep.

6 hours later, an entire pot of perfectly cooked oatmeal.
