Write on the Manual Cover: purchase date, where bought, warranty info, service plan. Instead of a box or file for all manuals...tape the packet to the item or keep in the same room as the appliance in a designated spot. TOSS the old manual when you toss the item. Staple the receipt to the booklet. Mail registration form right away! This will make life SO MUCH easier when you have to downsize or sell or give away the product. Attach hardware: allen wrench, brackets.
SAVE clear plastic jars... esp the big ones from BJ's and other warehouse stores. Use for storage. We have various size jars with adhesive tape, pet supplies, pens, small toys, xtra spices, batteries, play jewelry in EVERY room of the house. Dust free, water & pest resistant, easy to find and look nice when lined up together on a shelf. Eliminate furniture, gain floor space. Win Win. Ask friends who work at day care, church etc to save containers. Easy peasy when its time to move or declutter.
Prepare a big zipper bag full of colorful, crunchy veggies like carrots, broccoli, radishes, green beans and store in a portable cooler. Add a few small hummus containers and Spring Water. Bring a brochure that lists all the benefits of eating veggies and as you read, you will feel healthier and happy that you are actively doing something good for yourself. We did this and drove right past our usual fast food places....and reaping the benefits today!
For Lyme & West Nile disease prevention, we often use bug repellent that comes in a spray can. We spray our clothes BEFORE we put them on! Works great. Spread or layer clothes outside on a suitable surface...spray front and back and all the neck/arm/waist openings. Kids are much happier doing it this way....so are the adults. No wiggling, no breathing vapors, or worry about eyes...more confidence that you did a quality job. Obviously, use spray intended for human clothing.
When bananas are on sale or on the reduced produce shelf....I buy them! Peel them, cut them into smaller chunks and freeze....perfect for smoothies.
Even with the healthier whole grain Crackers, Chips, Pretzels...every good intention of sticking with the recommended serving size becomes defeat if the box is within sight. SO, I decided to count out the serving size into little baggies...now I have the right amount each time no guesswork after the meal...guilt free! Slows down my eating because what you see is what you get. Saves money buying bulk instead of individual packages and baggies can be used more than once.
When an item is "almost" empty (ie vanilla extract, windex, TP, coffee) I add it to the shopping list hanging on the fridge. Ask family members to do the same, instead of telling you "we need more..." I copy the list to a note on my phone, or take a pic. No emergency runs to the store for this or that by planning ahead...great lessons for kids...plus I get to look for sales...and we always have TP!
One or two teaspoons of fat free/sugar free Pistachio or Butterscotch Instant Pudding mix into a cup of fat free plain yogurt. Stir until blended....YUM!
When sending a greeting card to a hospital patient ..I put the patient's home address in the return box. If they go home or transfer to a different facility before the card gets to them, it will get sent to their home rather than back to you.
The power is OUT! Flashlights dim? Candles too dangerous with kids/pets? No batteries left in the store? Try the little individual solar lights designed for outdoors. I bought some at a discount store for cheap. I keep a few on my sunny fencepost...they stay clean and within easy reach to bring inside for great indoor lighting in an emergency or any day to save electricity and use the sun's free energy.
