At holiday time (or any other time) when I fall off the wagon, I no longer tell myself "I have blown it" and wait until the next day or week or month to correct the behavior, I get right back on track immediately. Old habits are hard to break, but if you don't give them any time to return, it is much easier to eliminate them altogether.
Years ago I started writing in a "joy" book. Each day I added at least one thing that brought me joy. I lost the book for years, but happened upon it while cleaning. It is amazing how writing (and later reading) one small happy incident or memory each day can lift your spirits.
