Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."
Making permanent change is something that requires us to have times where we doubt ourselves. It is during these times where we have a choice to move forward or regress. There were so many challenging days during my weight loss journey that made me feel as though I didn't have the strength to meet my goals. Don't let mishaps define you. Keep putting 1 foot in front of the other stay consistent. In all of us, we have the ability to rise up from challenges. Don't let the hard days drag u down.
To get on the right track it is important to eliminate sugar & processed foods for about a week. The 1st few days are hard but, well worth it! After that, here are some tips: 1) drink 2 glasses of H2o & have an ounce of nuts for a snack. 2) Take a power nap. Sleep deprivation causes carb cravings! 3)Plan ahead! Prepare premeasured snacks for the next day like a small, fat free yogurt with fruit so u are not tempted by chips/cookies. Personal power goes a long way in this journey. Plan ahead!
The hardest part of losing weight is staying with it. I know this from personal experience. I think sometimes, when we want something so much, we become highly critical of ourselves. I am here to tell you that perfection isn't possible. We all have bumps in the road. If you mess up, that's ok! It's part of this journey. Old habits are hard to break! Not impossible! They remind us of what we don't want & test our resolve. Get back with your program & keep going. A healthy life is possible 4 all!
I wish life came with a handbook but, it seems, we are to look inside ourselves for the will to make changes in our life. In order to lose weight you have to decide that the life you are leading is not the one you were meant to. I believe that we all have in us the power to do amazing things! Before you go to bed tonight make a commitment to yourself that from this point on you will exercise everyday in some way. It will become a part of who you are & life will be filled with possiblities.
Exercise and burning calories are essential parts of losing and then, eventually maintaining weight. The gym is great but, there are so many other ways to squeeze in exercise! Exercise can be vacuuming and mopping the house to some good tunes, taking the dog for an extra long walk, chasing your toddler around the park, gardening with the family, going to the mall a half hour before the movie to walk around it briskly, washing the car, sweeping the driveway, swimming, etc. POSSIBILITIES ENDLESS!
One of the ways I was able to put on a substantial amount of weight after the birth of my 3rd child and not realize it was because of the clothes I was wearing. Get out of baggy clothes and put on some fitted ones. Baggy clothes seemed to give me a false sense of security about my weight. I knew, deep down, that I had gained weight but, I really didn't have to face the truth until I stepped into a pair of jeans. Celebrate your curves during each faze of your weight loss journey! Don't hide :)
Losing weight is not an easy task. It is both a mental and physical endeavor that will challenge you in ways that are hard to prepare for. Lean on someone who understands the peaks and lows. Don't try and go it alone. If you go to bed at night envisioning yourself healthy and can commit to a program then make sure you have atleast one supportive friend to rally for you when the going gets tough. Many times, the difference between success & failure is a pep talk or a good cry.
Getting on the scale daily can trigger you to move off course when trying to lose weight. Only weigh yourself once a week. I wanted validation daily when i first began my weight loss journey to know psychologically that what i was doing was working. however, over time i realized that my weight fluctuated daily and it started to sabotage my efforts. Weigh yourself weekly and look at how your clothes are fitting.
When I lost 70 pounds I knew I needed something to get me excited about exercising everyday. Each night, before bed, I compiled a playlist of my favorite songs for my workout the next morning. This literally, was what kept me going through my weight loss journey! Music can elevate your mood in an instant and make this process a lot easier!
