Since the weather is really hot sometimes water alone is not enough when you're doing activities that make you sweat a lot. I found Powerade Zero which has electrolytes and has zero calories. I drink some of it when hiking in the heat along with water to make sure I'm not just flushing all the electrolytes out of my system. Sweating and water alone sometimes depletes your system so this is a great tasting and zero cal way to make sure electrolytes are restored.
I have a harder time with exercising when the weather is hot, even with a fan or a/c. I really like to be outside. Cooling bandanas are great to help with this. You can get a pack of 4 reusable ones from Amazon.com for $8. You put one in cold water for usually 20-30 minutes, wring it out, and put it around your neck or tie one around your forehead. They have special little beads sewn into them that retains and hold the cooling moisture in. Great for walking, gardening, even hot flashes.
The weather is warming up and I like my drinks icy cold. So I half fill bottles of water or green tea and freeze them, then add more of the same drink when I'm ready to drink it. My green tea doesn't get diluted as the ice melts when the ice is also the green tea. I love water that way. Works for other things like Crystal Light, etc. The ice melts before I'm through with the bottle so I drink all of it.
I have worn a pedometer faithfully for over a year now to log my steps. When I first started wearing one, it got knocked off my pants waistband a couple of times and one time I lost it that way. So then I started clipping it to the waistband of my underwear instead of outside. Now I haven't had that happen anymore. My pants or skirt keeps it from getting knocked off accidentally.
I don't make New Year's resolutions because they are something absolute and are usually broken before the end of the day. I make goals for the new year, that are things I will work toward all during the year and can be revised and reevaluated as needed. Doesn't give me the feeling of failure that the resolutions do when broken.
I've found that putting a liberal amount of salsa on a low sodium rice cake is a great snack instead of chips and dip. The rice cake has about 40 calories and the salsa (like Pace picante) has about 10 calories and is mostly made of tomatoes. Low calorie and satisfies my desire for something cruncy and spicy.
Blogs are a great way to get some of your thoughts together and share them with others. But when you want to journal thoughts and feelings you want to keep private using the journal in the Planner section is a great place to do that. You can mark that as private, and then still be able to use it for very personal or private writing and blogs for things you are willing to share with yoiur friends and others.
I have a set of resistance bands that I carry in my suitcase when I'm traveling. Takes up minimal room, can be used anywhere, and so I don't have to skip workouts. They were about $10 I think at Walmart and there is a few different resistance levels depending on the color or the bands.
I keep an extra pair of shoes and socks in the trunk of my car so I can throw them on and get some walking in sometimes like if I find I have a little extra time, or see a trail or park that looks inviting, or for any other time when I might be able to take a short quick walk. Great way to get in some more exercise, whether it's 10 minutes or half an hour.
