Fill the doggie bag first before eating at restaurants!

Restaurants serve too much food at once and if left on the plate I would eat too much while talking to my family or friends. I learned to ask for the doggie bag first and put everything that was over my serving size into it. Most places no longer have bags but 3 sectioned containers. Now I take my own container. Last time some friends & I went to a good restaurant we all filled our containers first and then had a healthy satisfying meal with great portions!

Pack healthy snacks to take with you!

When shopping or working away from home, take small reusable containers of healthy snacks with you. I personally like raisins, nuts, whole wheat crackers. If the activity takes too long I eat one of the small snacks instead of buying something from vendors or vending machines. Saves calories and money! I also carry a camelback water bottle to stay hydrated.

Don't count the exercise that is too easy!

When I get stronger, I no longer count as exercise things that are easy for me. For instance, I can do Zumba for 60 minutes now and only 30 minutes of that is raising my heartbeat. I count only 30 minutes. I do a lot of garden work this time of year, but I only count the amount of time that was difficult. This makes sure that not too much credit is given me.

Start tracking your steps!

Using the step tracker on the fitness tracker, start keeping track of the number of steps you take. When I first started sparkpeople last year, I was walking about 3000 to 5000 steps per day. I joined a group that that had steps walked as one of their goals. I worked myself up to 10,000 + steps (recommended) within a year's time. Now I find myself walking more than that routinely!

Have back up exercise plans

If your days change like mine you have to have alternative plans for busier times. Fit in smaller units of exercise times around your other obligations. A 15 brisk minute walk up and down the stairs adds that much time to your daily workout, Do strength training will doing chores or watching your favorite show.

Strength Exercise around the house

Lose your inhibition and it's easy to do your strength exercise while you're doing household activities. Squats while putting away clothes, lunges while walking to another room, weight lifting while putting away cans of food--the list goes on! Have fun! emoticon

Remember suggested proportion placement on plate!

Going to a smorgasboard used to be a problem for me, i knew which foods would be best for my nutritional intake, but took too much. When I remembered to use the proper proportion of food groups to have on a plate, I did well!
