Family Exercise

Two of my boys need to get more exercise so I decided to join the the "Run on Water" event on March 5th and hopefully this will be an incentive for them to do daily walking. We live in Northern WI and Lake Superior freezes over and the walk in on the Lake to one of the islands. I think they would be SUPER motivated to build up their endurance. My 'secret' is to find local events to get the kid's involved. emoticon

Calculating Favorite Dessert

I'm putting this under motivation because it was a FANTASTIC motivator! I put my favorite pie recipe [Dixie Pie] in the nutritional calculator and it became MUCH LESS favorable when I found out the calories and fat content for ONE piece! Even if I divided the pie into 15 small pieces, it still had: 344 calories and 23.6 grams of fat! This pie suddenly lost ALL its appeal! emoticon

Mindset

As I was walking yesterday, and it was a very challenging walk in the sleet, snow and WIND, I thought to myself, "NOTHING tastes so good that I would give up all this hard work!" I honestly couldn't think of ONE food that tasted good enough to throw away all my efforts towards healthier living and better lifestyle. Not really a 'secret' per se but it was encouraging that God is changing my MIND through SparkPeople! emoticon

Thanksgiving

I was feeling a little overwhelmed yesterday as I was putting my recipes for Thanksgiving into the SparkCalculator, and then I decided to do something that thrills me to the bone--JUST EAT MODERATELY! I'm not stressing about today, because after 4 1/2 months, I HONESTLY don't like that feeling of being too full, so I'll eat moderately and throughly enjoy my family, the meal, and maybe even a taste of dessert! emoticon This is a FOREVER journey and learning to eat moderately is such a key!

Drinking HOT water

Hot water is an appetite suppressant and my body just craves it. The other day, my daughter asked why I drank hot water, and I said, "I loved it", so she started drinking warm/hot water at 8 years old. Yesterday she told me that hot water was the BOMB and that she loved it! emoticon Try it..you may love it and get the added benefit of suppressing your appetite.

Shaking Salad

I got this tip from a fellow SP friend! Put your salad ingredients in a bag, pour your dressing, salsa, sauce, etc. into the bag and shake! This will allow your entire salad to have dressing on it. :-)

Go to BED

When I'm tired, I can get downcast very easily! Last night was one of those times. I thought about how I felt this morning, and decided INSTEAD of dwelling on how I'm feeling, JUST GO TO BED and in the morning I'll feel so differently. Seems simple enough! :-) And it worked! I got 8 1/2 hours of sleep and feel much better this morning.

Emotional Eating

After almost 8 weeks, I ate emotionally last night! Before SP, this would cause me such distress that I would CONTINUE eating everything in sight, since I'd already blown it. I read once that this mentality is like getting a black mark on a white dress--NOONE would take the marker and write all over the WHOLE dress since it got one little mark. Well, SP helped me NOT completely lose control. And I'm ready to get out again and walk this morning. Life seems brighter! AND [see below]
