You've all heard that it is easier to resist junk food if you don't have it at home. But let's take this one step further : Don't even let yourself go down the junk food and sweets isles at the store. Don't look at it, don't linger by it, browsing over the section, don't pick it up and contemplate walking out of the store with it even if it is "just for the hubby or kids", don't even try to justify it by reading the ingredients list or nutrional list to see "if it's really THAT bad!"
While having someone to workout with adds a social aspect to exercise that can be fun, becoming indepedent in your exercise is vital. I've seen too many people struggle with keeping exercise a regular part of life, because they always, or nearly always, depended on someone else going with them. Eventually, you have to cut the apron strings and do it on your own if you want it to stick. And when you do, you might just find the alone- / "me-" time very refreshing....
Make a schedule for exercise, and make it a habit STICK TO IT no matter if you feel like it or not! (Except for sickness, injury or extreme weather, of course.) When it really comes down to it, keeping exercise regular has really little to do with motivation, and SO MUCH to do with habits. You can say your exercise habit is a muscle - the more you work it, the stronger it becomes.
