What helps me is to visualize how I FEEL after certain choices. I recently got back on track on my diet, and every time I eat, I sit and think: do I feel sluggish and bloated, or do I feel good? I find after I eat a healthy meal I feel energized, not bogged down and guilty. After exercise, I think, "how do I feel? Do I feel lazy and fat or do I feel good?" Really closing my eyes and visualizing how I feel after choices I make helps me remind myself why I need to do this.
I don't care for plain water, and I like to put lemon or lime juice in it. There's a great product called True Lemon (they also have lime and orange) that is crystalized lemon juice, so it's shelf stable. It comes in both a shaker and in little packets. I love it! I add it to my water and my tea and it motivates me to drink more water! Plus, no sugar or anything because all it is, is lemon juice that's been crystalized.
Instead of rice, try lentils! They're dirt cheap, cook easily, and nutritionally have a little more to offer than rice. 1/4 dry, when cooked, provides only 80 calories, and also gives you 10 grams of fiber! and 10 grams of protein! THis makes them more filling, and adds variety to your diet. They have a great earthy taste and they're especially delicious when cooked with chicken broth!
I absolutely love macaroni and cheese, but there's two big problems. 1)I cook just for myself, so making a whole box makes no sense for me. 2)it's usually a huge fat and calorie bomb.
I have started drinking 5-6 cups of hot green tea a day, sometimes more. It makes me not crave food so much and I don't feel the need to constantly snack. It may just be because of all the water, but who cares? It works. I've read for years that green tea helps with weight loss, and I really think it does.
