EOD: Just Do It!
Make good use of your Sparkpeople excercises!
Every day Sparkpeople has an "Exercise of the Day".
Every day, do this exercise for one set.
Do the set for 10-20 reps, just to get a feel for it. If you like it, add it to a future workout.
Doing this will take no more than a min of your time each day, but it will expose you to trying a new body movement.
Get Shoes that Fit!
Take the time to make certain you shoes are well fitted for walking or running.
Find a good store that wants to work with you to ensure a good fit, and will give you a few weeks to be certain that the shoes break in well. Do not be afraid to go back if the shoes do not feel good. No need for pain!
Vacation Eating... take a hit. Then back to the diet!
Summer vacation! A fun getaway! A calorie restricted diet?
Traveling exposes one to many different foods, and what is the point of not enjoying those foods? Before your trip, choose how many calories per day you can eat at maximum (greater than now) and stick to that goal. Take a short calorie hit!
Walk to the gym!
Next time you drive to your favorite fitness center for a workout, park as far from the front door as possible. I see people at my local 24 Hour fitness center driving in circles looking for a close spot. Why?
Try to break this habit for the gym at least, and you may end up breaking it for good!
Battling the ups and downs
Learn how to ignore the ups and downs of weight fluctuation. Weigh yourself every day, and use a moving average to compute a trend line. Your weight may fluctuate by 5 or more pounds per day, and your true weight loss will be lost in this fluctuation. A moving trend line makes your loss/gain clear!
Bump up the calories once every so often!
Every 3-4 days I increase my calories by about 10-20% that day over the average of the previous 3-4 days.
This allows me to feel less "deprived" and allows me the occasional meal out with friends.
This also seems to keep me from the plateaus, or at least shorten them.
Pick a Direction!
Short walks throughout the day help me burn calories, get some fresh air, and recharge me for my work.
Every 3 or so hours, I pick a direction and walk for 5 min. Then I turn around and retrace my steps. A quick 10 min at whatever pace you want works wonders! Try it a couple of times!
