It's nice to add Cinnamon to your oatmeal, but have you tried other spices? I like Pumpkin Pie spice in my morning oatmeal and it makes it less boring too.
Did you know that Cantaloupe is only 24 calories for 1 wedge? (That's 1/8 of a medium sized fruit). At that rate you can have two wedges and not feel guilty. I try to have some every day.
Try Morningstar Farms or Boca Veggie Crumbles in any dish you would normally use hamburger, ground turkey or chicken. The prep time is practically nil and you get the chewiness of meat.
Added bonuses are:
- Low Fat
- Added fiber
- Good flavor
- Quick preparation time.
Try adding Kale to any soups or stews you make. It adds some color, nutrition and flavor to your food. I added it to my Chicken Noodle Soup and it was wonderful!
Did you know you can pre-soak your brown rice and thereby shorten the cooking time? Just 1 hour of pre-soaking will cut as much as 10 minutes of cooking time and your rice will be fluffier too.
I have recently discovered Gummy vitamins. I take 2 a day (as recommended on the bottle) and it's like a little treat for me.
1 bottle has Peach, Cherry & Orange flavored gummies.
When eating anything that needs a spoon, try using a smaller spoon instead. My 6oz yogurt lasts far longer with a "baby" spoon that it does with a regular spoon.
When ordering your food at a restaurant, ask for a To Go container at the same time. When your food (and the container) arrives, take half and put it away immediately.
When planning out menus for the week, make sure to have a good variety of protein. Planning ahead is great, but getting sick of eating the same thing everyday defeats the purpose!
Whenever I need to remind myself (or husband) of something, I write it on the bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. Whenever I brush my teeth or wash my hands, I see the message. It's easy to clean off with a tissue too.
