I keep background music on all day and switch from rock to classical to c&w to jazz. Music provides a great calm and peacefulness to the spirit. If you have pets, it also keeps them company when you leave. Music is food for the soul - healthy food.

Walking is easier if you have music with a good beat to it. I listen to songs where each beat is a step. I especially like "Roll it Up" by The Crystal Method to get me started. (No lyrics, just instrumental.)
