I often find I really don't want to get out there and exercise. Well, I found a trick that works like a dream. I allow myself to not want to and just get ready to go. Then if I still don't want to walk or run after my first lap or first stage of what I'm doing I allow myself to change it up or quit altogether. I've only changed my exercise once so I think this helps get me up and out!

Exactly! Nobody said in order to exercise you actually had to WANT to! Just plan on doing something for 10 minutes & take it from there! If that's all the energy you have, at least you've done your day's allotment; but it's been a rare event where, once out & about, I haven't gone 20, 30, even 60 minutes or more! emoticon

My husband and I just get up and go swimming every morning. No discussion, still sleepy, just habit! When we get home, we are awake, refreshed and ready for the day! emoticon

Yes but be careful that the mind doesn't play tricks on you...it has a way of doing that.

There have been times that I just go to the gym and after trying to "talk" myself out of it for over an hour. I just get ready, drive there, trying to convince myself that I want to go. But, once I start working out, I have only ever had one time I was not glad I went. I was sick and dizzy the whole time, my vision kept blacking out a bit, but I pushed through it. I hardly ever say "geez, I regret going." I do regret not going though. :)

Sometimes you just need to give yourself that leeway. emoticon

I love tricks like this. It's like I'm babying myself, being really gentle and understanding yet still pushing slightly. Like how a mother would coax a young child into trying something. "OK fine, we may not go to the gym, but we'll just put on our workout clothes, it just takes a sec." "OK we'll go outside and head for the gym, we can always turn back but we'll just go halfway there." "OK we're here, we'll start working out and if we really don't like it after 10 minutes we can leave." But then I get into my workout and I never leave. I find it really works!
