When I cook in the kitchen it is hard to avoid temptations. Snacking while cooking adds up to lots of extra unaccounted for calories. To avoid this I try to drink a big glass of water before I start cooking, and have a bowl of fresh chopped fruit or veggies available. That way when I am tempted to put something in my mouth, I can grab a bite of these things instead. This has helped me a lot.
Calories themselves aren't necessarily the enemy. Empty calories are.
While it is true that a McDonald's hamburger has fewer calories than a 6" Subway Veggie Delight, which do you think is actually the healthier choice? Just because something is lower in calories doesn't mean it's always the healthiest choice.
