There are times when I get down because I didn't achieve certain things in life. The best thing that ever happened to me was that I was never given a shoulder to cry on in those situations. From that point I realized that - if you really want to help someone - the best way to bring a person up is to give them a nice verbal kick in the a$$ to get them going back in the right direction. By sympathizing, it allows that person to further justify feeling down or negative.

Wear a sweat band on your forehead! Without sweat dripping down my face, I have to depend on the rest of my body to tell me how I'm doing. The dripping sweat makes me work less hard, but the hidden sweat keeps my sympathy for myself away and keeps me going!
