Find an exercise you love... AND STICK WITH IT! :)
When I went to my first Zumba class, I felt so un-coordinated and sore afterwards. My instructor even suggested it wasn't for me. Three months later, I easily keep up with the routines and can see the pounds AND inches melting off! When you find an exercise you love, STICK WITH IT -- it'll get easier and easier each time you do it and you'll notice a big change both physically (weight loss) and mentally (improved mood, more self-confidence).
My secret is finding an exercise you love and doing it! I trained in Tae Kwon Do for 2.5 years and did enjoy it but stressed out over learning the Korean terminology and patterns. I felt guilty if I didn't attend class but constantly looked for excuses not to go. I now go to Zumba twice a week!
The class is informal, no need for equipment, no heavy dobok to iron and then sweat in, no pressure. That's the key. You just turn up and throw yourself around. Everyone smiles! The music is catchy. There are no disadvantages that I can think of. Try it - there are classes everywhere!306
