I've re-focused my weight loss efforts through choosing foods that truly fuel my body. While I can plan for treats, they're so often empty calories that add nothing to my health. Nutritious foods are generally higher volume foods too which helps me with staying full for longer.

Calories themselves aren't necessarily the enemy. Empty calories are.
While it is true that a McDonald's hamburger has fewer calories than a 6" Subway Veggie Delight, which do you think is actually the healthier choice? Just because something is lower in calories doesn't mean it's always the healthiest choice.
I eat my entire serving of the least calorie dense food (salad, fruit, vegetable), then most nutrient dense (beans, whole grains, seeds/nuts) before having the least nutritionally important foods (refined carbs, foods with added or unhealthy fat, starches lacking vitamins & fiber, etc.).
This way I'm eating plenty but minimizing my intake of empty calories and maximizing the nutrition in my meal.
