When my husband would come home from a hard day's work, I had that old school European mentality to feed him to his heart's content, and I'd be right there beside him eating the same amount! UNTIL we got his blood tests results! I thought I was taking care of my love by preparing healthy foods. What I didn't realize was the portion sizes were killing us. Now I am measuring and/or weighing everything on a scale to make sure we dont go over one serving, as well as checking our nutrition stats.
Of course, my husband needs more calories than me, so when he comes home, I ask what he ate during the day. I record it, and let him know if he has any snacking calories left after dinner. It is actually working! And we are enjoying being on the journey together. We also work out together.

One of the most powerful things that SparkPeople has taught me is that although I can & will be imperfect, I can still be a success! If I miss a workout or go over on calories, I don't throw the towel in for that week, or even the whole day. I look at how far I've come & jump right back in.
Getting rid of the "all or nothing" mentality is the best thing I've done for myself!
This journey is 95% mental and 5% exercise and nutrition. Figure out the reasons that you gained weight, work on dealing with emotions/stress, keep finding new ways to stay motivated, and take care of YOU!
Journaling, talking to a friend, exercise, and really spending time with myself have helped me to keep my mentality in the right place.
